Papers of Emma Hart Willard, 1787-1870

This set includes personal papers and correspondence to and from the 19th century women's educator, Emma Hart Willard. Willard first gained public recognition with the publication of Plan for Improving Female Education (1819). The collection consists of Willard’s unpublished writings (correspondence, diaries and manuscripts, business documents); documents related to the female schools Willard established; correspondence and diaries of students studying at Troy; documents relating to Willard’s involvement in the textbook industry (as well as the textbooks themselves); and Willard’s published essays, letters, articles, and other publications.
