France
CRL Collections
CRL’s collection related to France is particularly strong in newspapers, official gazettes, legislative debates, and other government publications. Foreign government sets include despatches and correspondence from U.S. consuls and the U.K. Foreign Office. CRL also has extensive collections of pamphlets and publications relating to the revolutions in France. French literature and drama (particularly 17th–19th centuries) are also well represented. The references below feature many of the strengths of CRL’s holdings. Links point to more detailed descriptions in the CRL catalog, as well as digital versions of the content or digitized finding aids for microfilm where available. Collecting in this area continues through the purchase programs.

CRL has acquired scattered holdings of archives of the French Foreign Ministry, including the Correspondence Angleterre for 1770–89 [catalog record], a considerable amount of diplomatic and consular correspondence with parts of northern Italy for the first half of the 19th century, and selected correspondence with other countries in Europe, the Middle East, and North America.

CRL holds the proceedings and various miscellaneous publications issued in conjunction with the 1st–17th congresses (1944–60).
