The Center for Research Libraries (CRL) is pleased to announce that two newspapers from the Central African Republic, Le Citoyen and É-Lè Songô, are now available for loan. These titles were preserved through a collaborative project led by the African Studies Collection Committee.
Rarely held in U.S. libraries, these newspapers provide valuable insight into the political, social, and cultural history of the Central African Republic. Researchers may now borrow microfilm reels through CRL. Holdings include:
- Le Citoyen: 1999 through January 2001
- É-Lè Songô: October 6, 1986, through November 5, 1993
Northwestern University and Stanford University contributed the source newspapers for preservation. As the inaugural project completed under CRL's Global Collections Council (GCC) framework, this effort advances the preservation of rare African newspapers and expands access to important primary source materials for researchers.
This milestone project reflects the GCC's commitment to strengthening global research collections across regions and languages. By preserving at-risk materials, the project helps ensure that unique historical resources remain discoverable, accessible, and available for future scholarship.
CRL members and researchers are encouraged to take advantage of this newly accessible collection.
