Purpose and Strategic Role

The Nominating Committee is a standing committee of the Board that evaluates applicants and nominated candidates to be elected by the Voting Members to the Board of Directors, in accordance with CRL's bylaws.

The Nominating Committee ensures that Board succession accounts for the diverse perspectives, expertise, and institutional contexts of the CRL membership community.

The committee, in accord with CRL's bylaws, works in partnership with the President of CRL and another member of the Board, who serve in non-voting capacities to provide relevant support to the committee's work. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Recruitment: Identify and nominate candidates to stand for election by the Voting Members to the Board of Directors.
  • Selection and Nomination: From the pool of candidates, selecting the cohort that best addresses the views of the membership and succession needs of the Board, to create a slate of candidates for election at the annual business meeting.
  • Reporting: Submit a formal committee report of nominations to the Voting Members and the Board of Directors.

Composition and Membership

  • Chair: Appointed Board of Directors to serve a two-year term.
  • Members: Appointed by the Board of Directors. The committee is composed of the President, at least one officer, and Voting Representatives appointed by the Board, all serving two-year terms. Except for the President and appointed officer(s), all other directors are excluded from the committee. Non-Board members of the Nominating Commmittee should be excluded from nomination.

Operational Framework

  • Meeting Cadence: Meetings are convened as required.
  • Reporting Structure: Recommendations and reports are submitted by the Committee Chair to the Voting Members and the CRL Board of Directors.
  • Staff Support: CRL President's Office.

    • Established as a Standing Committee under Article VIII, Section 2.b of the CRL Bylaws (as amended May 19, 2025). Originally established January 5, 1968.
