CRL is pleased to introduce our new Metadata Initiatives Program Officer, Morris Levy. Morris is a seasoned metadata strategist and cataloging leader with over 20 years of experience in academic libraries and cooperative programs.
He will join the Collections, Access and Technology directorate leading the Metadata Department in fostering a vibrant, member-driven community of practice focused on collaborative metadata creation and discovery innovation. As Morris notes, he is excited to join CRL “because of the opportunity to collaborate with colleagues on innovative approaches to cataloging and metadata and to help strengthen CRL’s role in advancing shared collections and discovery.”
“Morris’ appointment reflects CRL’s continued investment in collaborative metadata and discovery as foundational to shared collections,” noted Amy Wood, Director for Collections Access and Technology. “His expertise will enable CRL and our members explore new, innovative approaches to describing, connecting, and sustaining global research resources.”
Morris earned his MLS at the University of Illinois and an MA in Folklore with a concentration in Ethnomusicology from Indiana University. He has directed large-scale cataloging and metadata initiatives at institutions including OCLC, The Ohio State University, and Northwestern University, advancing inclusive description and shared metadata infrastructure. His work reflects a deep commitment to collaboration, equity in bibliographic description, and improving global discovery through innovative metadata practices.
Outside of work, Morris enjoys choral singing and contributing to an online gospel music discography.
Morris’s first day at CRL will be January 20, 2026.
