The Center for Research Libraries (CRL) is pleased to announce a new leadership structure with Andrea Duntz promoted to Chief Operating Officer (COO) and mission activities reorganized into two new Directorates under Amy Wood and Lanette Garza. In tandem with this, CRL is launching recruitment for a data analyst and cataloging program officer.
“Our members have asked for a more integrated collections and content strategy, and for engagement with member library staff on work that shows the value of CRL,” said Jacob Nadal, CRL President. “This change creates those integrations on the leadership team and lets us staff up in areas that have a direct connection to our members.”
As COO, Duntz will provide cross-functional oversight of CRL’s services and operations, ensuring that strategy, member engagement, and organizational resources are fully aligned. To keep collections and content at the heart of our efforts, two new Directorates have been created, each reporting directly to the COO.
Amy Wood will serve as Director for Collections Access & Technology, overseeing the full scope of discovery and delivery services, including digitization, interlibrary loan, cataloging, collections management, and collective action initiatives such as shared print programs and cooperative cataloging efforts.
Lanette Garza has been appointed Director for Collections Acquisitions & Licensing, with an expanded portfolio that integrates content licensing, acquisitions of physical collections, and leadership of CRL’s content-focused committees, including the Global Collections Committees (GCCs) and the NorthEast Research Libraries (NERL) Program.
“Andrea’s leadership has been instrumental in modernizing CRL’s operations,” said Nadal. “Her experience in nonprofit governance and institutional administration has positioned CRL for sustainable growth and greater responsiveness to member priorities. From day one, she’s been an exceptional partner and as COO, she’s in a great position to help CRL connect strategy to execution.”
“It’s an exciting time to bring our expertise in negotiation and advocacy to bear across the full spectrum of CRL’s collections and content strategy,” Garza said. “We’re committed to advancing sustainable access and building on CRL’s strength in international collections.”
“I’m looking forward to deepening the connections between our collections, discovery infrastructure, and service delivery,” Wood added. “By bringing these efforts together, we can help build a resilient and accessible system of research libraries.”
“Amy’s depth of expertise in bringing technology to bear on discovery and access, and her leadership in shared print initiatives make her the right person to connect CRL’s collections services to the needs of our members,” Nadal said. “Lanette has a great track record of coalition building through her work with NERL, and she’s well-positioned to lead a unified collections and content strategy that reflects our members’ diverse needs.”
This restructuring also enhances CRL's ability to provide focused program officer support for committees and member engagement, ensuring that CRL is not only listening to member needs but translating them into action. To put this into practice, CRL will post two new job openingly shortly; one for a Data Analyst to support licensing activities, and another for a Program Officer focused on cataloging and metadata.
“We’re retooling our organizational structure to ensure members see meaningful returns on their investment in CRL,” said Andrea Duntz, COO. “Our goal is to provide consistent, high-quality support that directly connects CRL’s strengths to the everyday work of our member libraries.”
CRL will continue to review its structure and staffing as part of its ongoing strategic planning process, with an eye toward maximizing operational efficiency, expanding global access to information, and strengthening the research infrastructure that supports scholars worldwide.
