We seek academic standard terms that support the teaching, learning, research, and business needs of our community, while advocating to improve those terms to better reflect the values of openness, equity, and responsible stewardship.

Sustainability: NERL pursues innovative and sustainable business models that provide creative alternatives to support the dissemination and long-term preservation of the scholarly record. Our agreements are designed to be cost effective, clearly priced, and free of unnecessary content.

Equity: NERL works to eliminate barriers to scholarly communication by supporting open-access publishing at a fair cost while also advocating for user privacy and accessibility standards.

Fair Use: NERL strives to safeguard all authorized uses granted under US copyright law, to protect author rights by promoting copyright retention including article deposit in relevant repositories, and to support researcher’s ability to conduct computational research.
