CRL will assist in an effort to secure archives, data, and other evidence of violence and disappearances in Mexico during the post-2006 drug wars, as part of a seminal MacArthur Foundation initiative [3] to “protect human rights and restore the justice system in Mexico.” CRL was awarded a planning grant from the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation to develop an operable strategy for preserving formal and informal documentation on human rights violations during a particulalry turbulent period in Mexican history. In late 2018 and early 2019 CRL advisor John Slocum worked with CRL and the Foundation to assess the state of human rights-related documentation in Latin America, as part of the Mellon Foundation-funded Global Collections Initiative [4]. The present project will build upon CRL experience in the area of human rights documentation [5].
