Program:

Ten $750 travel stipends are available for staff at CRL libraries to attend New Directions for Libraries, Scholars, and Partnerships:  an International Symposium to be held in Frankfurt, Germany, on October 13, 2017.  The stipends are being offered by CIFNAL (the Collaborative Initiative for French Language Collections) and GNARP (German-North American Resources Partnership).

The purpose of the stipends is to increase communication and collaboration between North American and European librarians, and to engage early career librarians in this dialogue.

In addition to staff members of libraries that are institutional members of the Center for Research Libraries or CIFNAL or GNARP, personal members of CIFNAL or GNARP (as of January 1, 2017) are eligible to apply. CIFNAL’s members are listed here. GNARP’s members are listed here. CRL libraries are listed here.

Preference will be given to candidates who have not recently received a CIFNAL or GNARP travel stipend and who are:

  • Early career and/or general humanities librarians
  • Travelling to Frankfurt from outside of Europe
  • Engaged in relevant professional activities or scholarship

Persons may receive only one stipend for the Frankfurt symposium.

Review of applications will begin July 5, 2017; stipends will be awarded on a rolling basis until all ten stipends have been awarded.  Stipends may be used to defray the cost of registration and/or travel in the amount of $750 per person. The stipends will be administered through CRL and the selection of recipients will be made by designees of the CIFNAL and GNARP Steering Committees and CRL.

Stipend awardees will be required to submit proof of registration and travel receipts. Awardees will also be required to submit a one page report by December 1, 2017, documenting their experience at the symposium and outlining the ways in which their attendance contributes to their professional work.

Attendees will be encouraged to register for the Frankfurt Book Fair (October 11-15, 2017) and will be offered an orientation to the Fair, publishing's largest international event.
