CRL to Purchase Seven New Collections

The Center for Research Libraries will purchase seven valuable microform collections through this year’s Purchase Proposal Program, with a list price value of $192,215. These sets will soon be available on interlibrary loan to researchers at CRL member institutions.

Many major microform collections and reprint sets can be too costly for individual institutions to purchase, and are not usually available through interlibrary loan. Through the CRL Purchase Proposal Program, libraries nominate microform and hard copy collections for CRL purchase. Participation in this cooperative acquisitions program is one of the benefits of CRL membership. This year 117 CRL member institutions nominated or voted for the following sets:

  • Arts and Culture Newspapers and Serials from Egypt, 1915-1974
    Approximately $51,858 list price purchased over two years time. (Exact reel count and cost dependent on several factors.) Titles include:

    Year 1

    • Al-lataaef al-Musawara (1915-1937)
    • Duniya al-fan (1947-1974)

    Year 2

    • Kul Shai (1925-1927)
    • Majjalat al-risalah- Eidor- Ahmad Hasan al-Ziyyat (1933-1964)
       
  • Church Missionary Society Archive, Section V: Missions to the Americas, Part 4: British Columbia, 1856-1925
    12 reels; $2,400 List Price
     

  • La Gaceta Mercantil De Buenos Aires, 1823-1852
    27 reels; $1,020.40 [depending on currency exchange rate]
     

  • The Illustrated Weekly of India, 1940-July 1955
    $4,100 per chronological year; $63,550 list price purchased over three years time
     

  • El Nacional (Buenos Aires),1852-1899
    72 reels; $2,720.76 [depending on currency exchange rate]
     

  • New York Post, 1970–1989
    240 reels; $55,470 List Price

     

  • Political and General Newspapers and Serials from Egypt, 1886-1940
    Approximately $15,196 List Price [Exact reel count and cost dependent on several factors] Titles include:

    • Al-Balaagh, 1929
    • Al Dunia Al Musawara,1929-1932
    • Al-Jareeda, 1907-1915
    • Al-Lataif al-Misriyyah, 1886-April 1888
    • Al-Muayyed Al-usuboui, 1907-1909
    • Kul shii wa-al-dunia, 1933-1937
