CRL Implementing a New Library Service Platform: FOLIO

CRL is pleased to announce that it is implementing FOLIO as its new library services platform. FOLIO is a community driven, open-source platform that supports traditional library operations and positions us for greater community collaboration around knowledge management

CRL chose FOLIO because it is tightly aligned with CRL’s core values of open infrastructure and responsible operations. Joining the FOLIO community creates opportunities for CRL to better serve its members and partners through active engagement in future library initiatives that build a better knowledge infrastructure. As a FOLIO Community Partner, CRL staff and other resources contribute to its growth and development.

CRL contracted EBSCO Information Services to provide support and maintenance for FOLIO. CRL chose EBSCO as a partner because of their experience migrating Millennium systems to FOLIO, their large team of experts earmarked to support CRL’s migration and their investment to FOLIO. EBSCO is an active member of the FOLIO community and contributes developer expertise and code to the ongoing development of FOLIO to support libraries.

The New CRL Online Catalog

In conjunction with CRL’s adoption of FOLIO, a new online catalog will go live on June 15, 2022. The new online catalog will be accessible though the familiar catalog.crl.edu web address.

The new CRL catalog is powered by VuFind, an open-source resource portal built by, and for, the library community. VuFind works with FOLIO to deliver an enhanced discovery experience. CRL’s technical teams and discovery experts have customized VuFind to preserve popular collection navigation scopes and familiar CRL features with VuFind modernizations, such as advanced faceting.

In the coming months, community review of the new catalog by member representatives will contribute more features and other user experience enhancements. If you would like to be involved in this process, please contact websystems@crl.edu.
