LAMP has provided funding for the digitization of the Brazilian newspaper Diario de Pernambuco, now available through the University of Florida's South American Digital collections. The first phase of LAMP funding supported the digitization of issues from November 1825 through March 1863. In May 2013, LAMP allocated additional funding expected to extend the online collection of Diario de Pernambuco through 1893. 

Diario de Pernambuco is acknowledged as the oldest newspaper in circulation in Latin America. The issues from the 19th century offer insight into early Brazilian commerce, social affairs, politics, family life, and slavery. Published in the port of Recife, Brazil, the Diario contains numerous announcements of maritime movements, crop production, legal affairs, and cultural matters. The issues from this time period include reporting on the rise of Brazilian nationalism as the Empire gave way to the earliest expressions of the Brazilian republic.
