CRL’s Purchase Proposal Program is a key annual activity for building CRL collections. Member libraries nominate and vote on microform and hard copy collections, which are often too costly or esoteric for individual institutions to acquire, for CRL purchase.

A total of 14 microform and print sets nominated by members are on this year’s ballot. Titles include: Er Shi Shi Ji San Shi Nian Dai Guo Qing Diao Chao Bao Gao, a reprint set of more than 470 university student field reports on Chinese cities between 1931 and 1937, just prior to the Sino-Japanese war; Vietnamese newspapers in French and Vietnamese from the Bibliotheque Nationale de France; the Montreal newspaper Le Devoir; and statistical annuals from Japanese prefectures.

This year’s Purchase Proposal ballot offers richer features for member input through CRL’s eDesiderata platform. The designated contact from each CRL voting member institution can cast votes online, and then revise their votes at any time until the extended ballot closing date: Friday, November 21. Additionally, other collection development librarians (as identified through CRL’s Contact Information System) may review and comment on the ballot using their CRL Login.
