CRL “Pivots” to Open Access

At CRL’s 2016 Council of Voting Members meeting the question was posed, “Should more CRL digital resources be Open Access?” Attendees said yes and CRL’s Board of Directors agreed. 

CRL digitization recently reached another milestone: over 25,000 titles digitized from CRL collections are now hosted on CRL's DDS platform, available to researchers at CRL member institutions.

The Slavic and East European Materials Project (SEEMP) recently microfilmed twelve newspaper titles from Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, spanning the years 1988-2010.

MEMP Preserves al-Hadaf

The Middle East Materials Project (MEMP) has microfilmed issues of al-Hadaf from 1979-1989.  This title was published in Arabic in Beirut, Lebanon by the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (P.F.L.P.).

The Collections and Services Policy Committee plays a critical role in reviewing and proposing broad directions for CRL collections strategy.

Three libraries became new voting members of CRL on July 1.

The Southeast Asia Materials Project (SEAM) recently microfilmed issues from May 2000 - April 2002 of  Xin sheng ri bao (Harian Hidup Baru), an Indonesian newspaper published primarily in Chinese.

The dashboard, developed as a result of recent community discussions, provides a high-level view of the progress of shared print archiving efforts.

New Members Join TRAIL

Four institutions recently joined TRAIL (the Technical Report Archive & Image Library).  TRAIL identifies, acquires, catalogs, digitizes and provides unrestricted access to U.S. government agency technical reports.

The Middle East Materials Project (MEMP) has preserved nine Afghan publications, covering a broad range of time periods and subjects.

Project Ceres grants a total of $48,839.43 to projects from five universities. 

At the April 14 meeting of CRL’s Council of Voting Members, delegates from CRL libraries  elected  new members of the Board of Directors, approved a budget for the coming fiscal year and authorized new digital directions for CRL.  

With the support of twelve member libraries, CRL will acquire four microform sets through its 2016 Shared Purchase Program.
