Four institutions recently joined TRAIL (the Technical Report Archive & Image Library).  TRAIL identifies, acquires, catalogs, digitizes and provides unrestricted access to U.S. government agency technical reports.

TRAIL is in the top 25 of HathiTrust content contributors, with more than 39,000 volumes of technical reports originally published by the US Government.

TRAIL has now digitized over 5,000 technical reports produced by the Atomic Energy Commission, many of which were produced by the Hanford Nuclear Reservation in Washington State.

TRAIL (the Technical Report Archive & Image Library) now has over 1 million pages of content in the University of North Texas Digital Library.

TRAIL will now collect U.S. government technical reports from all years, doing away with the 1975 cutoff it had previously used.  Following a recent vote of the membership, the TRAIL Bylaws were amended to allow for personal memberships.

Marianne Mason, the TRAIL project's Member Representative from the University of Iowa, has been appointed to the Depository Library Council.

The Technical Report Archive and Image Library (TRAIL) has a new email list. TRAILtalk is intended as an information exchange about all things related to TRAIL and technical reports.  

The Technical Report Archive & Image Library (TRAIL) has made a search widget available.  The search widget can be embedded on LibGuides or other webpages to help library patrons find digitized historic federal technical reports.

TRAIL’s original Chair, Maliaca Oxnam of the University of Arizona, has transitioned into the role of Past Chair. TRAIL’s new Chair, Mel DeSart of the University of Washington, begins his two-year term.

A recent article by TRAIL’s Past Chair Maliaca Oxnam highlights the opportunity researchers have to use data sets found in TRAIL’s 42,000+ US government technical reports.

TRAIL continues to add content to its collection of digitized U.S. government technical reports. 

Five new institutions have joined the Technical Report Archive & Image Library project since November 2011.

Members of the Technical Report Archive & Image Library will offer an informal Information Session on June 25 to provide information about the TRAIL project.

The Technical Report Archive & Image Library will hold its annual Steering Committee Meeting in San Antonio, Texas, on April 7 and 8, 2011. Representatives from TRAIL member institutions are encouraged to attend and learn more about the project.

TRAIL project members will hold an informational session at ALA Midwinter on Saturday, January 8, in San Diego.

The TRAIL (Technical Report Archive & Image Library) collaborative effort digitizes and provides access to scientific and technical reports issued by U.S. federal agencies prior to 1975. CRL invites institutions to join TRAIL as the program becomes part of the Global Resources Network.

The TRAIL project has received the 2010 Documents to the People Award, sponsored by LexisNexis, GODORT, and ALA. The award will be presented at the ALA conference in June in Washington, D.C.
