With the support of 18 member libraries, CRL will acquire four major microfilm sets through its 2010 Shared Purchase Program. The total list cost of these acquisitions, which benefit all CRL members, is $54,698.

The Shared Purchase Program, along with the Purchase Proposal Program, are CRL cooperative collection development efforts. Through these programs, CRL members nominate, prioritize, and vote for CRL to acquire highly sought-after but expensive materials.  Shared Purchase Program materials are acquired with CRL seed money and funds contributed voluntarily by interested CRL members.

CRL thanks the following libraries for participating in this year’s Shared Purchase Program:

  • University of Arizona
  • University of British Columbia
  • University of California, Berkeley
  • University of California, Los Angeles
  • Colby College
  • University of Colorado, Boulder
  • Columbia University
  • Cornell University
  • Duke University
  • University of Iowa
  • McGill University
  • University of Oregon
  • Oregon State University
  • University of Pennsylvania
  • Princeton University
  • Purdue University
  • University of Washington
  • Wayne State University

The generous contributions of these libraries made acquisition of the following new collections possible:

  • Comintern Archives: Files of the Communist Party of Japan. IDC ($25,080)
The files of the Communist Party of Japan cover the period 1919–41 and include extensive documentation on the relations between the Soviet Communist Party and its counterparts in Japan, the Far East, Europe, and America. The set complements CRL’s other Comintern Archives holdings.
  • Islam-Fiche: Readings from Islamic Primary Sources (Series I-II).  IDC Publishers ($3,328)
This collection of selected reading texts from published and unpublished sources reflects the chronological, geographical, and linguistic diversity of Islamic studies.
  • Nihon shokuminchi kyoiku seisaku shiryo shusei: Chosenhen Collection of Japanese Colonial Documents on Education Policy: Korea.  Ryukei shosha ($18,245)
This collection contains documents relating to education policy in Korea during the colonial period 1910–45. The materials include documents on educational facilities, textbooks, compilation statistics on education, and local education magazines, as well as confidential reports by the education management bureau of the Japanese Government-General.
  • Women in the Netherlands East Indies. Part 2: 19121960 ($8,045)
The Kartini Fund, established in 1913, was a privately administered foundation to provide Dutch-language secondary education to Javanese girls. The Fund's archive contains correspondence, reports, statutes, meeting minutes, financial documents, teaching materials, photos, brochures, periodicals, press clippings, and other types of documentation concerning the founding and administration of the Kartini schools overall and the individual schools in Java.

CRL will start accepting nominations for the 2011 Purchase Proposal Program from CRL libraries this summer. For more information, contact Mary Wilke, CRL Member Liaison and Outreach Services Director.
