In June 2014, the Southeast Asia Microform Project (SEAM) approved a name change: it is now the Southeast Asia Materials Project. This change signaled the last of the six Area Materials Projects to formally embrace digital technology as a means to preserve critical and at-risk archives and primary source materials from the major world regions.

To support this transition, CRL allocated new financial support for AMP-led digitization efforts that mesh with CRL’s strategic areas of focus (news; legal and government information; the history of science, technology, and engineering; and the history and economics of agriculture). This past fiscal year, CRL supported 16 AMP proposals for digitization, which involved a total of $71,868 in combined AMP / CRL funds. The supported projects include, among others:

  • CAMP – Uganda Tooro Kingdom Archives
    • CAMP investment $6,132, CRL contribution $6,948

  • LAMP – Diario de Pernambuco
    • LAMP investment $12,300, CRL contribution $5,500

  • MEMP – Habzbuz
    • MEMP investment $250, CRL contribution $250

  • SEEMP - Ukrainian Émigré Press
    • SEEMP investment $7,000, CRL contribution $3,000
