MEMP Expands Mission, Adds New MembersJan 8 2014
The Middle East Materials Project (MEMP) recently broadened its mission to incorporate digital preservation and electronic access initiatives in its regular activities. The name change—from “Middle East Microform Project” to “Middle East Materials Project”—reflects the growing interest among CRL’s area studies projects in digitization and digital preservation initiatives. Recently approved changes to MEMP’s Bylaws broaden the language about the format used for MEMP’s preservation projects.
Since July 2013, five institutions have joined MEMP: Brown University, the University of Toronto, the National Library of Israel, Michigan State University, and Cornell University. MEMP now has 37 members working collaboratively to preserve unique, rare, hard to obtain, and often expensive research material for Middle East studies.
For more information about joining, see the MEMP section on the CRL website.
