Serials Working Group Minutes
16 April 2005
Gainesville, FL (SALALM)
1. Assignments for working group members:
Fernando Acosta agreed to update the LAPTOC Data Entry User Guide -
http://www1.lanic.utexas.edu/project/arl/ingreso/guide.html
Mary Jo Zeter agreed to update the LAPTOC Data Entry FAQ - http://www1.lanic.utexas.edu/project/arl/ingreso/faq.html
Paul Losch was nominated to take responsibility for the LAPTOC Journal Selection Page: ttp://lal.tulane.edu/LAPTOCjournals.htm which involves updating the page on a regular basis, moving the page to the University of Florida server, and letting us know the new address so Sam Jones can link to it from the Registered User Login page at UT-LANIC: http://www1.lanic.utexas.edu/query/login_entry.jsp
We discussed the need to have another working group member be able to update journal data that is provided to us by the bibliographers, as Mary Jo Zeter and Paul Bary currently do. Ruby Gutierrez and Paul Losch were mentioned as possible candidates.
2. HAPI / CLASE / LAPTOC journals comparison list - http://lal.tulane.edu/LAPTOC-HAPI-CLASEjournals.htm
We discussed the utility of this page, and how to increase its utility.
We decided that it should be linked from the LAPTOC Journal Selection
Page, and updated periodically. The link to this page has now been made
from the Journal Selection Page. Other databases to include in future
comparisons might include SciELO, RedALyC, and the journals component
of the proyecto Cibera of the Iberoamericanischer Archiv in Berlin.
3. Prioritizing items for reprogramming
We agreed that it is a high priority to provide links between titles
that continue other titles, and it would be highly desirable to provide
links to journal websites from the Article Search Result screen.
4. LAPTOC journal status review
Since the meeting, there has been discussion between Scott Van Jacob
and Paul Bary about the need to review the status of each journal and
update to "Currently Available" for those journals that have
TOCs added after 2004. When he or she is hired, the graduate student
at UT-LANIC will be assigned to do this task, and possibly also to collect
TOCs from institutions that do not have the time to enter them, and
either enter them or get them to someone else who can enter them.
Minutes submitted by Paul Bary.
