This issue of FOCUS on Global Resources reports on two recent gatherings, both addressing the new challenges of developing library collections for international studies. The first, a forum on the “Global Dimensions of Scholarship and Research Libraries,” at Duke University, brought together scholars, administrators, librarians, and others to appraise how, and how well, libraries are supporting the newly globalized American higher education.  The second, “International and Area Studies Collections in 21st Century Libraries,” assembled collection development and area studies librarians to explore the new challenges of developing international collections.

Both reports offer useful insights for those involved in the daunting but vital work of preserving the record of world events and the evidence of human achievement across the globe.
