Collaborative Digitization

Collaborative efforts with CRL partners result in adding an average of nearly four million digitized pages annually, hosted on various platforms. Specialists at member libraries help CRL identify materials for digitization. Priority is given to primary sources that will have a measurable impact on research, and those potentially at risk through physical damage or hostile political environments.

CRL supports digitization projects by the various global resources programs. Recent CRL digitization initiatives have also involved partnerships with the following libraries and publishers:

Mindful of the need to articulate principles for agreements undertaken by CRL with any commercial vendors for digitizing CRL collections, in 2005 CRL’s Collections & Services Policy Committee (CSPC) developed a guidelines document to serve as an initial framework for CRL's evolving digitization strategies.
