Since 1949 membership in the Center for Research Libraries has empowered academic and research libraries to advance collection building beyond the capacity of any single institution. CRL member libraries gain access to unique primary source materials in various formats—digital and analog—identified and selected by leading subject specialists at major North American research universities working together on behalf of all.

At its core CRL is a community of libraries committed to the long-term integrity and accessibility of information.

Becoming a Member

There are two classes of membership: voting members (institutions located in continental North America) and global affiliates. Libraries support CRL activities and services by paying an annual cost share, rather than a membership fee.

Make the Most of your Membership

CRL libraries can leverage the benefits of membership by participating in cooperative collection development programs, loading CRL records locally, participating in CRL programming  (virtual and in-person), and promoting local awareness of CRL resources. Suggestions are noted.
