Print Preservation

CRL has been at the forefront of efforts to preserve scholarly print materials through collaborative action for many years. Having enough print copies for the future becomes more important as weeding within academic libraries increases. Sharing data about where print serial holdings are maintained, how it is stored and who has access is important information for library retention decisions.

  • To promote sharing of information and best practices on print archiving CRL sponsors a Print Archive Network (PAN) forums at ALA Annual and Midwinter meetings - view the event archive.
  • CRL is building and maintaining a JSTOR Print Archive on behalf of member libraries.
  • CRL's PAPR database is the most comprehensive registry of print serials archived in the U.S. and Canada.
  • CRL provides collection analysis and enhancement of serial print holdings records for individual libraries and consorrtia.
