Collection Arrangement:
Knowledge of the physical arrangement of this collection is important as this arrangement dictates the information necessary to access a specific work. The collection is arranged first of all by subject; then within each subject it is arranged by: 1.) author, or series (if the specific work was issued as part of a series); 2.) title; 3.) imprint date; 4.) variant edition (i.e. teachers edition, tests, workbooks, etc.)
| Information needed for successful use of the collection: As the collection must be searched to determine if a given work is held, the following information is important to a successful search:
As the collection is arranged by subject, browsing within a given subject is possible through loan of the material. Requests for multiple volumes are accepted (for example, provide 10 works in American History of the Secondary level for imprint 1940s). Such requests take more time to fill than requests for specific items; please request well in advance of the required date. |
The following table is intended to serve as a guide to the collection; it contains a statement for each subject held within the collection. This statement consists of: 1.) the definition of that subject which is used for this collection, and 2.) a listing of the types of materials held within that subject. This listing is arranged topically when the content of a given subject is extensive or diverse. For each subject, the range of grade levels of materials held is cited, as is the range of dates of publication held. The number of items within a specific subject area is also listed; this number is current to March, 2002.
