Text of E-mail
to Susan Go:
Warmest greetings to you
from Manila and from Ambeth Ocampo.
We are happy to announce that the E. Lopez Foundation,
in line with its preservation policy, has recently
microfilmed its complete collection of Tribune. The
Tribune was founded by Don Alejandro Roces, Sr. on
April 1, 1925 and edited by Carlos P. Romulo. This
English-language daily newspaper which became an integral
part of the chain of newspapers popularly known as
TVT-an acronym for the Tribune, La Vanguardia and
Taliba continued in circulation up to December 31,
1944. During the occupation of the Philippines by
Japan, the Japanese military authorities ceased the
TVT plant located at 334 Carriedo, Sta. Cruz, Manila
and transformed the Tribune into their propaganda
mouth-piece.
Our pride in the Tribune are two-fold: arising from
its high research value to scholars and researchers
dealing with Philippine Studies and the only complete
copy in existence in the Philippines.
Scholars and researchers will also appreciate the
time and efforts the E. Lopez put into the microfilming
of the Tribune. |
