Indic literature
--Translations into English--Periodicals.
Quarterly (irregular) 1963-72 then 1973-present |
| Reasons
for Consideration (Importance of material, history of
collection, physical condition, etc.) |
A very important
resource for researchers of Urdu language and culture.
This title is filmed by UMI but the price is prohibitive
for many institutions (~$3000). The film purchase would
allow access to the rather rare beginning issues of
Mahfil. In addition, the Digital South Asia Library
has agreed with the publishers to mount this title as
a full text searchable resource.
Although many libraries hold the print editions,
few hold microform copies. SAMP should consider purchasing
these as an archival copy of the material. In addition,
this proposal is seeking to explore models of cooperation
between SAMP and DSAL, where SAMP receives preservation
copies of material while DSAL makes it available in
electronic format. |
