Complete Reel Guide (PDF format)

The following records are available on microfilm from the Cooperative Africana Microform Project as of December 2000. The beginning date shown is the earliest date in the archives. The original archives contain material later than the last date shown, but these may not have been filmed.

Africa South of the Sahara, 1803-1923
Egypt, 1889-1914
Sudan, 1905-1914
Mauritius and Madagascar, 1856-1885
Palestine, 1880-1914
Committee Minutes, 1799-1879

The reel guide is intended for use with the more detailed index catalog to the records prepared by H.S. Cobb in 1952, as revised and expanded by R.A. Keen in 1960. A copy of the full index is available on microfilm (reel no. 1 of the microfilm copy of the Archives), on loan at CRL, or in xerox copy at the Center for Research Libraries ($25.00 per copy).

This index catalog is arranged by classification number, and describes the contents of each file or volume. The guide is arranged first by mission, and under each mission by classification number. Each classification number shows the microfilm reel that contains that classification number.

Types of records under the above classification are indicated by the following mnemonic code letters:

E = Early Correspondence (incoming and outgoing)
I = Individual letter book (outgoing)
L = Letter books (outgoing)
M = Mission books (copies of letters, reports, etc., received from the mission. The copies are sometimes full, sometimes are extracts only).
O = Original papers
P = Precis books (precis of incoming letters, reports, etc.)The number, if any, following this letter indicates the volume or box.

The number, if any, following this letter indicates the volume or box. E.g.: CA2/043 indicates the 43rd volume or box of original letters, &c. received from the Yoruba mission during the period 1820-1883.

For clarity's sake, we have also included the corresponding reel numbers of the collection as filmed by Adam Matthew Publications. [Section IV. Africa Missions]. AM reels are listed by Part followed by reel no. (ex. 9.159 = part 9 reel 159). Detailed description and collection arrangement is viewable through Adam Matthew's Web site: http://www.adam-matthew-publications.co.uk.
